I am interested in the past lives of found objects and their interplay with the people who have encountered them. Leaves are Falling, Rain is Pouring imagines a moment in the life of a person whose only tangible evidence of existence is a handmade pink, white and blue sweater. In creating a narrative from the sweater, using it as my main tool and instrument for the unearthing of evidence of lives past, I am investigating the relationship between excavator and excavated.
I am an interdisciplinary artist whose work asks questions regarding shared versus independent perception. I seek to explore the ways in which presence in moments can either be challenged or realized through one's perception of their surroundings and interpersonal relationships. My materials often include found objects and are used to create traces of moments past which invite the viewer into personal or fantastical narratives. www.jannamaria.com |
