My current piece seeks to draw attention to formalized university bodies, juxtaposing knitting as a quiet but consistent site of reflection against the contentious polarized bodies that I witness. Knitting in public is becoming relatively ordinary, yet knitting in a place where individuals have gathered to determine major decisions at Concordia University appears meditative. As meeting can escalate, the absurdity of people's reactions, and following of Robert's Rules make the knitting look positively tame.
More information is available at witnessconcordia.wordpress.com My work explores traditional construction methods and their uses in a contemporary context. I work to recycle materials within my work, letting a textile’s history inform a piece. I enjoy the repetitive aspect of traditional construction methods, choosing to reinterpret their steps in a way that suits my motive. |
